Intermediate Crimped Wire Mesh

  • High dimensional stability with larger mesh openings.
  • Good resistance to vibration and dynamic loads.
  • Widely applicable and cost-efficient.

Intermediate Crimped Wire Mesh

Intermediate crimped wire mesh is a widely used type of crimped wire mesh panel for industrial filtration, screening installations and mechanical guarding.

This type of crimp structure combines larger mesh openings with good dimensional stability, making it particularly suitable for applications with vibration, variable loads and high throughput requirements.

What is intermediate crimped wire mesh?

Intermediate crimped wire mesh is a variant of double crimped, or single wave, wire mesh. In this type, the metal wires are pre-crimped, but they are not mechanically locked at every crossing point. Instead, the locking occurs at fixed intervals, for example at every 3rd, 5th or 7th crossing.

This construction makes it possible to achieve larger mesh openings without the panel losing its structural stability.

Construction and mechanical properties of intermediate crimped wire mesh

The wires are mechanically profiled before weaving and engage with each other during the weaving process without welding. Thanks to the interval locking, this creates a panel that is:

  • less rigid than lock crimp mesh
  • more stable than woven metal mesh under load

The forces are distributed across several crossing points, ensuring reliable performance in dynamic processes such as screening, separation and conveying.

Dimensions, mesh openings and supply options

  • mesh openings possible from 8 mm to 100 mm
  • available with square or rectangular mesh openings
  • large stock of standard panels for fast delivery
  • custom-made panels possible at short notice

Technical characteristics of intermediate crimped panels

  • dimensionally stable panel structure under mechanical and dynamic load
  • suitable for medium to large mesh openings
  • good balance between open area and mechanical strength
  • reliable under vibration, impact and continuous load
  • available in stainless steel 304 and 316, galvanised steel and aluminium
  • available as rigid panels, on rolls or as custom-made mesh panels

Aplications of standard intermediate crimped wire mesh

  • industrial screen panels for coarse and medium fractions
  • filter panels in mechanical and process installations
  • protective and guarding panels around machines
  • panels in environments with continuous vibration or dynamic load
  • architectural and structural panels where strength and open area must be combined

When should you choose intermediate crimped wire mesh?

Intermediate crimped wire mesh is the right choice when:

  • larger mesh openings are required than with double crimped mesh
  • high throughput must be combined with stability
  • the panel is used in industrial screening or filtration processes
  • a durable alternative to spot-welded mesh is required

For smaller mesh openings or maximum locking at every crossing point, double crimped or lock crimp mesh may be more suitable.

Points to consider with intermediate crimped wire mesh

In intermediate crimped wire mesh, the wires are mechanically held at the crossing points by mutual tension, not by complete locking at every crossing. This means that this type of panel requires extra attention at the edges.

The wire ends cannot be shortened without limit: if a wire is cut too short, it loses its locking and may slide out of the mesh.
