Plain Weave Filtermesh

Efficient Industrial Filtration

Woven metal mesh involves weaving metal wires in a manner similar to textile weaving on looms. However, in this case, the wires are made of metal.

The result is a sieve mesh or filter mesh that remains somewhat pliable and deformable. It is clear that the smaller the opening and the thicker the wire, the less deformable the fabric becomes.

Characteristics:

  • The mesh is characterized by the mesh size and wire thickness, which determine the filtering capacity and precision.
  • Essential is the determination of the mesh opening, which indicates the size of the filtered particles.
  • Diverse weaving patterns, such as plain weave, twill weave, Dutch plain weave, Dutch twill weave, and reverse Dutch weave, each with unique properties and advantages.

Materials:

  • The mesh can be made from various metals such as stainless steel, copper, and brass. The choice depends on the required properties, such as corrosion resistance and flexibility.
  • Stainless steel, with variants such as 304 and 316, are popular due to their durability and resistance to corrosion.

Application:

  • Mesh is widely used in filtration to separate solid and liquid substances, or to filter particles from gases.
  • Mesh is used in various industries, such as the food industry, chemical industry, and the automotive sector.
  • Specific applications include industrial air filters, oil filters, extractor filters, and other filtration applications.

The mesh is rolled off the looms, with the edges having selvages and the cut sides having sharp points or small protruding ends. Similar to fabric, fraying is very limited with metal mesh.
